Join Dr. Terri Kennedy as she shares her journey from media executive to internationally-recognized social entrepreneur. With a BA in Sociology & Design from Wellesley, MBA from Harvard, a Ph.D. in World Religions, executive training in Global Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and certifications in Holistic Health and Yoga, she offers a multidisciplinary approach to business and life. She will offer insights into the world of social enterprise, including surviving the start-up phase, creating innovative strategies for outreach and funding, as well as managing your personal balance and sanity. Most of all, she will challenge you to use your unique talents to help improve the state of the world.
When Dr. Kennedy decided to leave as Vice President of Business Development and Operations at MTV Networks, most people thought she had lost her mind. Now, as President of Power Living Enterprises, she helps people live purposeful, productive and sustainable lives. In 2002, she founded the first yoga studio in Harlem. That became the launching pad for a variety of community-based health and empowerment initiatives including free yoga, faith-based health literacy programs, and culturally-relevant nutrition workshops. Along the way, she became a National Spokesperson for the American Heart Association and a Young Global Leader for the World Economic Forum. Her latest initiative, the Wellness Empowerment Network, is bringing together community partners to create a new space as a model for healthy and green living.
Before becoming a social entrepreneur and health advocate, Dr. Kennedy had a long record of success in both the business and creative worlds. She started her career as the youngest staff member at the Harvard Business School, where she wrote case studies on Fortune 500 companies. She was also a Creative Consultant for Universal Studios, and spent seven years as an executive at MTV Networks. She founded VH1 Interactive, helped launch six digital cable networks and, as Vice President of Business Operations, she negotiated landmark content/distribution deals bringing in over $30 million for the MTVN digital division. Although she is American, she was born in Accra, Ghana; started school in Adelaide, Australia; and studied and lived in Rome, Italy. She travels extensively attending the various World Economic Forums around the world, including the Annual Meeting in Davos. She has been featured in various media from CNN, NBC, Prevention and Tokyo FM radio in Japan, to Oprah’s book Live Your Best Life!. She is the producer of the Power Living: Mini-Escapes relaxation CD, and author of three books, 40 Days to Power Living, The Power Living Pledge, and Seven-Day PWR® Detox. She has received many awards and in 2008 her accomplishments were added to the U.S. Congressional Record.
