Find out how the pace of modern life has induced brain overload to the point where our entire society is suffering from culturally-induced ADD. Dr. Ned Hallowell, a leading expert on ADD and noted speaker, gives practical advice on how to take charge of today’s super-busy world so that it does not take charge of you.
Dynamic and entertaining, Edward (Ned) Hallowell, M.D. (HC 1972) explores how modern life has gone wild. The average manager handles more data points in one day than he or she handled in a month just a decade ago. Conversations are cut short and communication derails as constant frenzy becomes more and more the norm. This state of frenzy saps us of our creativity, humanity, mental well-being and the ability to focus on what truly matters. Without a system or a plan, a manager can spend a day or an entire quarter without spending ten minutes actually thinking. Run ragged by the multiple and simultaneous demands he or she must handle, today’s manager has almost no time to do what the human brain is uniquely equipped to do, namely think creatively.
Based on the article Dr. Hallowell published in the Harvard Business Review, Overloaded Circuits: Why Smart People Underperform and expanded upon in his book, CrazyBusy: Overbooked, Overstretched, and about to Snap, this presentation provides a step-by-step approach to unsnarling busy lives and moving to a calmer, more fulfilling life that is focused on our own priorities. Cutting deeper than the usual advice on how to manage modern life, which typically is just about getting organized and fulfilling potential by building on strengths, Dr. Hallowell addresses how to manage our three most valuable assets: time, attention, and mental energy.
