About Community Partners

Nonprofit Organizations

We primarily focus on Consulting projects, which are 3 to 4 month projects where there is a target 3 to 4 person team that consults on a specific strategic issue.

We also engage in a select number of Brainstorming projects, which are a 2 to 3 meeting project where there is a target 3 to 8 person team that thinks about a solution to a very specific strategic problem.

And, where appropriate we also undertake a few Coaching projects, where 1 person is teamed with a nonprofit to provide one-on-one mentoring over the course of a defined time period that can be as long as one year.

Organizations must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and be located in and focus their activities on the Greater New York City metropolitan area. To insure the success of the project, we expect the executive director of the organization to be the main contact for the project, and, together with the HBSCNY Community Partners project coordinator and team leader, generally set the direction and have oversight of the project.

Additional Project Criterion:

Consulting:
• Executive director is principal contact, gives direction and has oversight of project with the team leader
• Executive director hosts the initial meeting and ongoing interim meetings as appropriate
• Minimum $300,000 annual budget
• Minimum 3 full time staff or equivalent

Brainstorming:
• Executive director, 1 board member, and 1 staff member attend 2 to 3 sessions
• Organization demonstrates that it is has secured minimal or threshold funding level

Coaching:
• Executive director must be available to meet approximately once a month for the defined time period
• Should be a clear identification of the goal for a coaching project such as specific business issue; assistance to a new, entrepreneurial organization or help strengthening leadership skills
