The Senior Program Committee has arranged for Professor F. Warren McFarlan to join us for an afternoon event in which he will speak about the ideas in his book, Joining a Nonprofit Board: What You Need to Know.  In the book’s introduction Professor McFarlan says to people who have just joined a non-profit board, “You have just become part of one of the most fulfilling and personally satisfying sectors of the economy.”

These mission-driven organizations are very different in character from for-profit organizations. The role of board members, the importance of mission identification, measurement of mission performance, and the role of finances and philanthropy create a very different environment from the for-profit board.
