Nonprofit: High School for Environmental Studies

High School for Environmental Studies is a NYC public high school of 1250 students, 82% of which live at or below the poverty line. Founded in 1992, an energized new leadership team wants to build on its foundation of urban environmental education and its use of hands on collaborative learning. Hydroponics, food and agriculture, robotics, beekeeping, and media are only some of the courses designed with external partners.

Project: Program Design

This brainstorming session aims to help school leaders think through how to capitalize on High School for Environmental Studies important partnerships and explore which offer the most promise for further development and more funding for the school. There are many unmet needs in the school’s student body.

  • Review list of current partnerships and advise which ones hold the most promise
  • Brainstorm how the priority programs might develop and grow
  • Offer ideas about how to fund such growth and how to attract new resources
