Interested in learning more about angel investing? Come with questions and join guest speaker Jason Klein, co-President of the HBS Alumni Angels Association, and Chairman of the largest chapter, HBS Alumni Angels of Greater New York, as well as panelists Marti O’Mara, John Reichenbach and Andrew Knott, from the HBS Angels of Boston, as they walk through the basics and share lessons learned from this fascinating space. This event will be moderated by the Chairman for the HBS Alumni Angels of Boston, Matt Hagen.

Jason Klein, MBA 1986

Founder & CEO, On Grid Ventures

Jason E. Klein is an experienced media CEO and builder of digital and traditional businesses who has led two successful turnarounds. He is founder and CEO of On Grid Ventures with a portfolio of 25+ early stage companies. Mr Klein is co-President of the HBS Alumni Angels Association, and Chairman of the largest chapter, HBS Alumni Angels of Greater New York. Mr. Klein was previously CEO of Newspaper National Network LP; and CEO of Times Mirror Magazines/Time4 Media, publisher of Golf Magazine, Field & Stream, and Popular Science. He began his career as a consultant with McKinsey. Mr. Klein is one of AlleyWatch’s “25 Angels Investors in NY You Need to Know” and a member of New York Angels. Mr. Klein has an MBA from Harvard Business School and an AB from Dartmouth College.

John Reichenbach, MBA 1986

Board Chair - Federation for Children with Special Needs

Mr. Reichenbach, an engineer by training, has been CEO or CFO of six venture capital backed technology companies. He has raised $80mm in venture capital for these companies. The two biggest exits were e-Travel, which was sold to Oracle, and is now owned by Amadeus, and Amicas which was sold to a public company that assumed the Amicas name, and was eventually sold to IBM for $1 BB. He has also worked at United Technologies, Continental Airlines, and Becker Paribas at senior levels in nearly every function. He is an inventor on three issued US patents related to speech technology.

John led the relaunch of HBS Angels of Boston, which had been dormant for seven years. Since the February 2020 relaunch, HBS Angels of Boston has held eight pitch events and over a dozen educational events. 40 companies have presented, and Boston angels have made investments in 12 of them. HBS Angels of Boston has also teed up Smoodi, Beckon Ice Cream, BLDUP, Lupii and Moxie Scrubs for successful global syndication through HBS Angels.

In addition to his Harvard MBA, John holds a BS from Yale. He has been on the board of the Federation for Children with Special Needs since 2008, and currently serves as chair.

Dr. Martha O'Mara, MBA 1985

Principal, Place Strategy Partners

Dr. Martha O’Mara is a leading authority on the integration of corporate real estate planning with business strategic planning. She has advised on the management of over two billion square feet of occupancy for some of the largest corporate portfolios in the US and internationally. She lecturers at Tufts University on the future of work and urbanization. She founded and leads the professional network Executive Women in Corporate Real Estate. From 2015 to 2020 she directed portfolio strategy consulting at Colliers International US, who acquired the firm she founded and ran for ten years, Corporate Portfolio Analytics. Earlier, Martha served as a professor of real estate at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design for nine years and taught in executive development at Harvard and MIT. She is an active investor member of Harvard Angels, Boston chapter. Her MBA, MA and PhD are from Harvard University.

Andrew Knott

Partner, Brier Cliff Realty

Andrew Knott is a Partner in Brier Cliff Realty, LLC, a real estate development and investment company located in Gloucester, MA, and Director of Business Development for JFK Environmental Services, LLC, an environmental consulting firm specializing groundwater hydrology and climate-change adaptation. Previously, Andrew owned and operated AVO Fence & Supply, Inc., a manufacturer, and distributor of wood, vinyl, and metal fence products. He spent the most of his career at Riverdale Mills Corp., a company he co-founded with his family in the early 1980’s. At Riverdale, a manufacturer of PVC-coated wire mesh products located in Northbridge, MA, he developed and sold products serving customers in a wide range of markets including aquaculture, marine, construction, and agriculture.

Andrew completed OPM-24 in 1996, an executive education program at HBS.

Matt Hagen, GMP 2019

Principal Business Architect, Slalom Boston's Strategy & Operations (S&O) team

Matthew H. Hagen is a Principal Business Architect for Slalom Boston's Strategy & Operations (S&O) practice. Before joining Slalom, Matthew served as COO/CFO of a start-up, was "VP of Pricing & Policy" and "VP of Operations, Transformation, Finance, and Analytics" at Monster.com, and spent nearly a decade at IBM in roles spanning finance, planning, pricing, and product strategy. A Phi Beta Kappa undergrad in Accounting, Matt also holds master's degrees in business and psychology. Outside of work, Matt serves on the HBS Alumni Association of Boston's Board of Governors and is the Chairman for the HBS Alumni Angels of Boston.
