Interested in launching your own Private Markets Investment Firm for the first time? Want to meet other HBS professionals with similar objectives? Come join your HBS peers in this intimate but informal members only breakfast as two industry veterans, Hemali Dassani (HBS ’99 – CapLink Securities) and Marvin Rosen (Greenberg Traurig), discuss the legal and fundraising aspects for launching a first-time private equity fund.

This unique event will not have presentations but instead, in true HBS style, consist of an interactive discussion with all attendees being able to participate and share thoughts so members can learn from each other along with the featured speakers.

First time fund formation topics covered include establishing the right investment vehicle and fee structures, creating a fundraising strategy, securing anchor investors and building fundraising momentum.

Marvin Rosen

Shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, LLP

Marvin S. Rosen practices in the area of corporate and securities law. He advises private equity firms, hedge funds, activist and distressed investors on special strategies. Rosen received his B.S. in commerce from The University of Virginia, his L.L.B. from Dickinson School of Law and his L.L.M. in Corporations from New York University Law School.

Rosen serves on the board of directors of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, the Howard Gilman Foundation, Roundabout Theatre Group, and formerly served as a director of Nikko Asset Management Americas.

He served as the Budget and Finance Chairman for the Summit of the Americas, was the Chairman of the Florida Housing Finance Agency, and was the finance Chairman for the Democratic National Committee under President Clinton. He served as a Director of Terremark Worldwide Inc., until it was sold to Verizon.

Hemali Dassani, MBA 1999

Hemali Dassani, MBA 1999, is an experienced fundraiser and investor relations professional within the alternative investments space and is currently a placement agent at CapLink Securities and consultant to multiple Private Equity funds. Hemali was previously Director of Investor Relations for Argand Partners and Castle Harlan, middle market private equity funds. Hemali was also a Managing Director with Old City Investment Partners, a multi-family office dedicated to finding high quality investments for the firm’s clientele of family office investors. Ms. Dassani has an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University. She was President of the Harvard Business School Club of Greater New York and currently sits on the Board of the Club. Ms. Dassani is a published author of “Marketing Alternative Investments: A Comprehensive Guide to Fundraising and Investor Relations for Private Equity and Hedge Funds” (https://www.amazon.com/Marketing-Alternative-Investments-Comprehensive-Fundraising/dp/1264627645). The book was released by McGraw Hill by October 18, 2022 and has been the #1 New Release in Private Equity and Venture ever since.
