Come join us in a fireside chat with Kim Lew, President & CEO of Columbia Investment Management Company, which manages Columbia University’s $14 billion endowment.

Lew will join the HBS Club of New York in an exclusive conversation moderated by Club board member, author and advisor to funds, Hemali Dassani (MBA 1999). Lew will address such topics as trends in venture capital, growth and private equity, diversity & inclusion, investing challenges amidst current market volatility, and her views on market opportunities in the short and long term. In addition, Lew will reflect on growing up in New York City to the present.

For Lew, being appointed to the Columbia Investment Management Company position three years ago was a stellar milestone in her career, which includes a decade at the Ford Foundation and over a decade at the Carnegie Corporation. “In a career that has spanned three decades, Ms. Lew has established herself as a thoughtful and innovative investor with an immersive approach that yields impressive results,” Columbia University President Lee Bollinger wrote in an email to the Columbia community in 2020.

Kim Lew

President and Chief Executive Officer of the Columbia Investment Management Company

Kim Y. Lew is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Columbia Investment Management Company, responsible for managing the University’s endowment. She came to Columbia from Carnegie Corporation of New York, where she worked for more than a decade, most recently as Vice President and Chief Investment Officer.

Lew began her career at Chemical Bank as a credit analyst, after receiving her BS in economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She went on to graduate with an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1992, after which she joined Prudential Capital Group and then the Ford Foundation, where she spent more than a decade, first as a portfolio strategist investing in the technology sector and then as a senior manager responsible for the organization’s private equity investments.

Hemali Dassani, MBA 1999

Hemali Dassani, MBA 1999, is an experienced fundraiser and investor relations professional within the alternative investments space and is currently a placement agent at CapLink Securities and consultant to multiple Private Equity funds. Hemali was previously Director of Investor Relations for Argand Partners and Castle Harlan, middle market private equity funds. Hemali was also a Managing Director with Old City Investment Partners, a multi-family office dedicated to finding high quality investments for the firm’s clientele of family office investors. Ms. Dassani has an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University. She was President of the Harvard Business School Club of Greater New York and currently sits on the Board of the Club. Ms. Dassani is a published author of “Marketing Alternative Investments: A Comprehensive Guide to Fundraising and Investor Relations for Private Equity and Hedge Funds” (https://www.amazon.com/Marketing-Alternative-Investments-Comprehensive-Fundraising/dp/1264627645). The book was released by McGraw Hill on October 18, 2022 and had been the #1 New Release in Private Equity and Venture Capital for two months.
