As the elections approach, we are modifying our normal BBL process. We have invited the management of Cognovi to describe to us how artificial intelligence can mine social media, using public data, to predict results the pollsters miss. This is a tool that is becoming increasingly important in elections as well as in business. We will get a bird’s eye view as to how AI works to mine social media.
Most people thought that Brexit would lose, Clinton would win, and Roy Moore was going to be elected to the Senate from Alabama; but Cognovi correctly predicted Brexit and Trump’s victory and projected that Doug Jones would defeat Roy Moore three weeks before the sex scandal broke.
Voters may be evasive with pollsters, but when they go online, their true emotions come out. Cognovi has licensed a technology, developed with grants from the U.S. government that is able to mine social media to discover people’s true underlying emotions and the issues that really motivate them. (The Chairman of Cognovi is an HBS graduate and Cognovi is a portfolio company of HBS N.Y. Angels.)
We will focus on how AI intelligence can decipher human emotions in a number of the most important elections in 2016 and then discuss what the findings of Cognovi’s AI system tell us about what is really happening in the U.S. now. As part of the discussion, participants will be able to select particular elections, social issues, or businesses so they can understand how AI works in mining social media.
Please join us at our monthly BBL on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 12:30 p.m. for a lively discussion of how Artificial Intelligence can use social media to decipher human emotions and predict outcomes.
