No matter if you’re a beginner or seasoned collector, learn how to avoid common mistakes, and approach the market with an insider perspective, whether buying for fun or to create a world-class collection for yourself or your organization.
Alice Sachs Zimet is Chair of the Harvard Art Museums’ Photography Curatorial Committee, as well as the Chair of the Acquisitions Committee at the International Center of Photography and a founding board member of the Magnum Foundation. She is a pioneer in the field, having begun to collect in 1985 when few considered photography a legitimate art form. Today, Alice is one of the world’s top experts on how to collect photography and build a collection. In addition, she offers workshops and is a private advisor. She has taught workshops across the United States at museums, art fairs, photo festivals, auction houses and many other non-profits where hundreds have experienced her expertise on how to design and develop a collection.
Tonight, Alice will offer her top ten tips — the ‘do’s and don’ts’ — to becoming a successful collector. Learn the questions to ask, where to shop, and issues to avoid, using real world situations including her own 300-piece museum-quality collection.
If the idea of collecting photography — whether buying a single photo for your home or building a major collection as your legacy — has ever occurred to you, you will not want to miss hearing Alice’s advice and suggestions.
Hear an insider’s point of view on the market, the players, and how you can participate. You will be encouraged to ask any questions you wish, so don’t be shy!
