We have been invited to spend an action-packed day at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. We will hear from the Superintendent of the Academy, 3-star General Robert Caslen, about the modern army and how the academy is preparing the U.S. Army’s future military leaders. The day will include a tour of the campus and the famed West Point Cemetery.
One of the highlights of the day will be an interactive session with teachers and cadets on their ongoing study of the interrelationship of economics, decision-making and leadership. Each guest will receive a case study in advance and have an opportunity in small groups over lunch to discuss the issues raised, and debate – in typical HBS style – the best course of action from private sector/military perspectives. Lunch will also be a good time to get to know these young cadets and what motivates them to serve our country.
After lunch, we will have a presentation by the Combating Terrorism Center. And finally, we’ll attend the very special Sandhurst Competition, an annual 2-day event to inspire teams of male and female Cadets to achieve military excellence through a rigorous physical, mental, and leadership challenge.
We will travel by deluxe minivan to and from West Point. The day begins with pickup at 8am from St. Ignatius Loyola Church (980 Park Avenue at 84th Street). We will return to the same location by 6:00 pm.
This event is limited to 30 alumni and guests.
