In-Person Workshop: Make Your Company Stronger by Understanding Its Value

Description

The most important role for leaders of any business is to build value in the enterprise. Yet most owners and managers of middle market companies lack the single most important piece of information they need to fulfill that role: A clear understanding of what the business is worth right now. This workshop will give a way to establish that value.

Even excellent leaders leave value creation to chance, says Reed Phillips, CEO of Oaklins DeSilva & Phillips and author of QuickValue: Discover Your Value and Empower Your Business in Three Easy Steps.

In this hands-on workshop, Reed and his co-author, business writer Charlie Slack, will demonstrate how managers can overcome traditional valuation roadblocks and quickly and easily determine what their company is worth, based on its unique value drivers, some readily available information on multiples, and the proprietary QuickValue method, recently featured in Harvard Business Review.

Each participant will receive a copy of QuickValue, as well as a companion workbook guiding them step-by-step through the valuation process.

  • To start the program, Reed and Charlie will discuss why valuation is such an essential and often overlooked tool, not just for selling the company or raising capital, but for guiding key long-term strategy decisions, such as which business areas to focus on most, and which to pull back from.
  • Offering compelling, real-life examples, they’ll show why leaders who understand the importance of regular valuation gain a key competitive advantage, while those that ignore valuation risk the future of their business.
  • They’ll detail some of the reasons so many businesses avoid valuations.
  • They’ll describe how the QuickValue process enables leaders to use their own internal staff and resources to produce detailed, defensible valuations that can be seamlessly updated every year, as the business evolves.
  • The discussion will focus especially on value drivers: How to evaluate the essential drivers that make your company different from all others (including those in your own industry), how to rate your performance on each driver to arrive at your company’s Value Driver Score, and how to use that score, in conjunction with industry multiples, to determine your value.
  • Next, participants will use the workbook and break into small teams to consider which value drivers best define their company’s strengths and challenges. They’ll then have the opportunity present their findings to Reed and Charlie and have a back-and-forth dialogue about why they chose the ones they did and why they rated them the way they did.

Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of the importance of valuation as a regular, ongoing part of their business. They’ll have a clear path for undertaking the QuickValue process at their own companies and, thanks to the workshop, will already have a head start towards the answers they seek. Reed and Charlie will also offer online resources from Oaklins and elsewhere to aid the process and will share contact information for those who wish to keep the conversation going.

Please note that no refunds will be issued.

Pre-registration is required and will close at Noon on Tuesday, December 6th, 2023. SPACE IS LIMITED. NO WALK-INS WILL BE ADMITTED.
