General PublicDaytime

Description

The HBS Club of New York offers a unique daytime program including sailing on the Hudson and experiencing one of the most innovative educational programs in New York.

We have created a special program for sailors and non-sailors that will allow you to experience the Hudson River and expose you to one of the most unique programs in the New York public schools.

SAILING INCLUDED 1:30-3:30, No Experience Necessary
Hudson River Community Sailing (hudsonsailing.org) has a fleet of J boats. For those of you who want to experience the Hudson River, there will be a sailing program from 1:30-3:30 led by the crew of Hudson River Community Sailing. You do not need to know how to sail to participate in the program. Each boat will have 5 HBS guests and one instructor.

To limit costs, each boat must be filled. Reservations will be on a first come-first served basis. If there are not enough sailors to fill the last boat that boat could be cancelled.

For people who do not want to sail:
HRCS’s Innovative Education Program 4:00-5:00

After the sailing, we will learn about one of the most innovative education programs in the New York City Schools. In the Spring and Fall, HRCS teaches the students to sail. In the winter, it teaches them to build boats. The sailing and boat building is integrated with the science and math curriculum, and students receive academic credit. Graduates of the program have attended schools like MIT, Johns Hopkins, and Brown. We will have the chance to meet with these students and understand how the sailing program is impacting their lives.

Optional Lunch or Drinks (not included in the ticket price):
Next to HRCS is The Frying Pan, a historic lightship that for 30 years guided boats into New York harbor. It is now one of New York’s most popular restaurants. For people in the sailing program, there will be an optional lunch at 12:30. For people coming to the educational program, there will be an option to have drinks from 3:00-4:00.

Participants must register by 5PM on October 5th. RAIN DATE October 14th

Please note that no refunds will be issued unless due to rain date.
