The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is the largest municipal police department in the United States, with some 36,000 officers and 19,000 civilian employees. In the past 25 years, it has achieved spectacular declines in both violent and property crime, giving New York City the lowest overall rate of major crimes in the 25 largest cities in the country.
We will take a brief tour of the NYPD Headquarters building and hear a presentation by the newly promoted Chief of Crime Control Strategies, Lori Pollock, and members of her staff. Join us for an exciting exposure to the management and technology of crime control in what is widely considered to be the best and most sophisticated police department in the world.
Optionally, attendees may meet for a casual Chinese lunch at Peking Duck House (28 Mott Street) at noon followed by a 5 minute walk to the Police Headquarters.
NOTE: You must pass security to enter the NYPD Headquarters; no sharp objects, etc. Arrive promptly at 1:45 PM to allow for security checks and badging.
Please note no refunds will be issued.
Speaker
Chief of Crime Control Strategies
Chief Pollock is the senior NYPD executive responsible for the Department’s overall law enforcement mission. Before becoming the first woman to hold this position, Chief Pollock commanded the Northern Manhattan Narcotics and Detective Boroughs and the Department’s Candidate Assessment Division. She now manages the innovative work begun Jack Maple, creator of the CompStat process.
CompStat, the organizational management tool implemented by the NYPD in 1994, has revolutionized law enforcement in the United States. Chief Pollock chairs the weekly CompStat meetings which bring scores of Precinct and Borough executives to One Police Plaza for an extensive review of operations within their respective commands. Under her leadership, new programs of Neighborhood Policing and Precision Policing, buttressed by an increased reliance on data driven analytics are now being rolled out.
