Step into the dairy aisle of your local grocer and you will come across a familiar brand: Dannon. But there are many other to-selling brands that you might be surprised to find are part of the Danone family – Silk almond milk, Horizon Organic, Wallaby, Oikos Greek yogurt, Activia and International Delight, to name a few.

Danone North America is the product of a purchase of Whitewave Foods in April 2017 by Paris-based Danone for a reported $10 billion. The transaction makes Danone North America one of America’s top 15 food and beverage companies. In April, Danone North America became a certified B Corp.

Danone operates under four business lines: fresh dairy products, early life nutrition, waters and medical nutrition. The company’s mission is to bring health through food to as many people as possible. It aspires to achieve this with the Alimentation Revolution, a revolutionary approach to tackle health issues through food by encouraging healthier, more sustainable eating and drinking habits. Alimentation acknowledges that there’s more to nutrition than the delivery of healthy food and drink; it also encompasses cultural (identity), hedonic (pleasure) and social (commensality) factors too. Danone’s ambition is to become one of the first multinationals to be a certified B Corp joining its US subsidiary.
