Kevin Worth came to CoinDesk in 2017 to evolve a 4 year old blog about Bitcoin into a full scale digital media, events and data company dedicated to the entire crypto sector.

Today, CoinDesk consists of three integrated business lines

• CoinDesk Media, which includes a 24/7 global news team, CoinDesk TV bringing live and VOD coverage, CoinDesk Podcast Network and affiliates around the world including Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Turkey and Brazil.
• Consensus Festival, which is on the path to be the most influential tech festival of the crypto/Web3 era. Over 20,000 attended in 2022 from over 100 countries
• CoinDesk Data & Indices, a company that Kevin acquired and which creates crypto benchmarks for the investment management industry. The company launched in 2014 the original Bitcoin Price index (XBX) and recently brought to the market the broad benchmark the CoinDesk Market Index (CMI)

In this 60-minute fireside chat which will be held at CoinDesk’s New York offices, Kevin will talk about the management issues that the CEO of a new media company needs to be good at:

• How to hire into an almost start-up
• Building diversified revenue streams
• Lessons learned in crypto over last 5+ years
• What to do with/to/about competition?

Kevin will also talk about his particular case with CoinDesk:

• The business model — how do publishing/streaming, events and indices interact and create a virtuous circle?
• Being a CEO of a media company, with stories and analyses that cover a “glamor” and lately volatile vertical
• How being a highly regulated financial industry impacts his business decisions.

In an early interview with Digiday, Kevin explained, “We’ve been scaling the company editorially…We’ve hired a lot of journalists in different time zones and different beats…. Crypto and blockchain [are thought of] as two separate worlds. We cover them both but we cover far more than that. The narrative of price going up and down is a side show. What we’re doing every day is trying to chronicle the people who are building the scaffolding of this decentralized internet, both on the corporate and entrepreneurial sides. That narrative has a long road ahead of it.”

Although CoinDesk is owned by Digital Currency Group (DCG), the company makes clear that it “operates entirely independently of its parent company. DCG has no involvement in editorial or content decisions.”
